IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT OAE CODING
AND REIMBURSEMENT
As many of you know by now, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have drastically changed the manner in which audiologists and otolaryngologists can bill for OAE testing in 2012. Beginning January 1, 2012, a new CPT code (92558) will be available to describe automated OAE testing and has been designated as a non-covered Medicare service. The current CPT codes for OAE testing, 92587 and 92588, each have new descriptions and are very specific about the requirements for code utilization. Some OAE instruments may not be able to meet the requirements for billing under code 92588. If you are uncertain as to whether your OAE instrument meets the 92588 CPT code requirements, please contact your Midlantic representative for additional information.
